We live in a society where people hope for the quick fix.Winning the lottery, entering yet another sweepstakes, or even buying tickets for the church raffle--these are all ways that we try to get something fast that we haven't really earned. And the Internet... the Internet is full of get-rich-quick schemes (that are invariably fake). The problem with schemes like these is that they hardly ever work, and we spend all of our time chasing a dream that's got little chance of coming true.

According to recent studies, high school dropout rates among people aged 16 to 24 decreased from 1980 to 2001. In 1980, the rate was 14.1 percent, but the 2001 rate, at 10.7 percent, is still far too high. And the number gets even higher for African-Americans and Latinos. In fact, Latinos have the highest overall dropout rate, at nearly 30 percent.
